It's been quite some time since we've heard new music from Trent Reznor's infamous Nine Inch Nails. Lately Reznor seems to have been fixated on winning Oscars, getting married and working on side projects (see: The Social Network, Mariqueen Reznor and How To Destroy Angels).
Fear not NIN fans, for Reznor is back doing what made him a success. Reznor has released a cover of U2's "Zoo Station". While there is no new Nine Inch Nails album to look forward to (yet), this is better than nothing.
I know that many people won't be a fan of this track due to its relative calm sound in comparison to most of Nine Inch Nail's normal repertoire. That being said, I really appreciate what Reznor did with this track. The sound is very similar to what Reznor experimented with on How To Destroy Angels's debut album. For years, Reznor has been moving away from the gritty, industrial metal sound that popularized Nine Inch Nails in the late-80s. This is no exception. It is different, but that doesn't make it bad.
All in all, I think it is a great tribute from one great "band" to another from my generation. Well done, Nine Inch Nails; well done, Trent Reznor.
Give the track a listen and leave your thoughts and comments.
